Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses fine needles to stimulate collagen production, enhance skin texture, tone, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and scars.

Here are a few things that microneedling can help with:
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Acne Scars
  • Uneven Skin Texture
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Sun Damage
  • Neck Wrinkles "Tech Neck"
  • Stretch Marks
  • Surgical Scars

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that stimulates healthy skin cell signaling and the production of collagen.

In this process sterilized microneedles penetrate the skin, prompting a natural, innate cellular response that disinfects, removes debris, enhances blood flow, and stimulates new tissue creation.

The micro-channels formed by microneedling are filled with new granulation cells containing collagen proteins, accompanied by the development of a network of blood vessels.

Finally, the skin undergoes transformation with the formation of new dermal tissues rich in collagen and elastin, visibly reducing acne scars and wrinkles, resulting in smoother, radiant, and more youthful-looking skin.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling utilizes the skin's natural ability to produce collagen by creating tiny wounds in the skin with fine sterilized needles.

Before treatment our experts will consult with you to see if microneedling aligns with your goals and is the best option for you. When you begin treatment, we first thoroughly cleanse your skin with both make-up remover and alcohol, creating an aseptic environment. Once your skin is cleansed, a topical anesthetic is applied to minimize discomfort. A hydrating gel is then applied to the treatment area to help the microneedling device glide smoothly across your skin. The microneedling device creates millions of controlled microchannels to promote your body's natural healing process.

Is Microneedling for Me?

Microneedling is a great option for you if you are dealing with the following:

The Microneedling Experience

Our experts can get you started!
  • How long will microneedling take? - Microneedling is an art and science; depending on your treatment goals and areas, the actual times may vary. Generally, it takes approximately 60-90 minutes. This includes 20-30 minutes of numbing with topical anesthetic for maximal comfort, and 30-40 minutes of actual procedure time.
  • Does microneedling hurt? - We apply a topical numbing cream before we begin. Although you may sense pressure or a scratching-like sensation (think of a cat tongue or velcro) during the procedure, you should not encounter any genuine discomfort. The majority of people have minimal discomfort after microneedling. At most, some describe a tingly or tight akin to a light sunburn during the first 24 hours. This can be easily relieved by a cool shower, cold compress, and the hydrating gel provided by the aesthetic practitioner.
  • What is the downtime after microneedling? - Patients with lighter underlying skin tones generally notice a slight redness or 'sunburnt' appearance for 3-5 days. Peeling is also a normal side effect within the first week. In general, patients with lighter skin tones or Fitzpatrick I-III are advised to account for a 7-day buffer from major events. Patients with darker skin tones Fitzpatrick IV-VI, may actually see an extended healing timeframe of 10-14 days, in which the treated skin slightly darkens before re-stabilizing again, so this must be taken into account for adequate downtime.
  • What should I avoid before & after microneedling? - One of the cardinal rules of a microneedling treatment is to HOLD retinoid products (such as retinol, tretinoin or tazorac) for at least 3 days before treatment and 7 days after. Highly activating products such as retinoids can overly sensitize the skin if used too close to a microneedling procedure. It is best to inform you microneedling provider of any current skin conditions or skin products prior to your appointment, so that they may best guide you on your pre and post-care treatment plan.
  • When will I see results after microneedling? - After getting microneedling done, you will typically start noticing a change in about 2 weeks, in which the skin appears more supple, fresh and bright. Peak results and collagen formation, including the reduction of fine lines and pigmentation, are usually visible within a month. For treatment specific goals, such as severe acne scars or surgical scars, it is encouraged to complete a '3 series' every 4-6 weeks to maximize skin cell remodeling.
